Biryani or Biriyani, call it whatever you like! Rich in spices, perfection in cooking and timing! Popular, delicious and craving dish of India, and this one made with Mushrooms.

When its comes to Biryani, its mostly for non-vegan non-vegetarians favorite, but wrong! Biryani is so delicious, because of the mix of spices, herbs, rice and the final part is meat or vegetables. So the delicious biryani is achievable with Mushrooms, Paneer, Beans, Cauliflower, Potato and any other mild flavor vegetables.

There are multiple methods in making biryani, and dozens of style in making, different region prepare differently. All this biryani tastes different, but one thing is common, they all taste undoubtedly superb. Try this Mushroom Biryani Recipe, you will definitely amaze with the result.

Here we shared, simple mushroom biryani, one pot preparation, no need of layering and making gravy separately. Its a most common south Indian method, particularly Chettinad style Mushroom Biryani.


  • Oil 1/3 cup
  • Bay leaves 1
  • Cardamom 2
  • Cloves 3
  • Cinnamon stick 1
  • Chopped Onion 1 cup
  • Green chili 3
  • Ginger Garlic paste 2 tbsp
  • Chopped Tomato 1 cup
  • Chili powder 1 tbsp
  • Coriander powder 1 tbsp
  • Garam masala 1 1/2 tsp
  • Mint & Coriander leaves (ground) 1/2 cup
  • Curd or Yogurt 1/4 cup
  • Mushroom 400 gms
  • lemon Juice 1 tbsp
  • Basmati Rice 2 cups
  • Salt
  • Water 4 cups (If the rice is not old or soaked, reduce the water to 3 cups)


  • Heat the pot in medium flame, add oil
  • Saute the bay leaves, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon for 2 mins
  • Add chopped onion and fry till translucent
  • Add green chili, saute
  • Add ginger garlic paste, saute till raw smell disappear
  • Add chopped tomatoes, saute and cook for 5 minutes
  • Add chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala and partial salt
  • mix them and saute
  • Add ground mix of mint & coriander leaves, saute
  • Mix them well, and cook for 3 -4 minutes
  • Add yogurt or curd, mix well
  • cook till oil separates
  • Add mushrooms
  • Saute, and mix well
  • Cook for 10 minutes in low flame
  • Add lemon juice
  • Add rice
  • Mix slow and well
  • Add water (based on the rice instruction – If the rice is old, 4 cups of water do well, but new rice please reduce the water or follow instruction based on the rice packet)
  • Bring to boil
  • Cover and cook for 10 minutes in medium low flame
  • Sprinkle the coriander and mint leaves, turn off the flame
  • Keep the lid closed for 5 – 10 mins, and serve
